A galactic halo is an extended, roughly spherical component of a galaxy which extends beyond the main, visible component. Several distinct components of galaxies comprise the halo: • the stellar halo • the galactic corona (hot gas, i.e. a plasma) • the dark matter halo Webeff = 1.07 ± 0.10kpc, and a halo ﬂattening of q = 0.923 ± 0.007. If we allow for a radius-dependent ﬂattening q(R gc),weﬁnd evidence for a distinct ﬂattening of q ∼ 0.8 of the inner halo at ∼25kpc. Additionally, we ﬁnd that the south Galactic hemisphere is more ﬂattened than the north Galactic hemisphere.
